Had the time to watch both these recently released HIGHLY HYPED films that were expected to revive Bollywood’s sinking fortunes for the year 2008. Here are my small views (not full fledged reviews!) of both films
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa
A movie that can be watched with the family. Imran Khan makes a very pleasing debut even though he can improve a lot to be considered a good actor in the future. Genelia is the STAR of the show!! She is wonderful. Her Hindi diction needs fine tuning, but she is FANTASTIC! Bommarillu has changed her life, and now she rocks in JTYJN. The friends who act in the film have all done their job well, and AR Rahman’s music enhances the movie to the top of this world. There are some glitches – the story is something that has been beaten to death, the movie dragged a bit towards the end, the climax was very filmy and the film in quite some places reminded us of Shahrukh Khan’s “Chalte Chalte”.
But all these aside, this film can be watched many times due to its icy cool screenplay and the natural performances from the lead actors and its world class music.
Love Story 2050
Is this called a ‘movie’? YUCK! A time machine that takes you to 2050? I have seen filmmakers put flower on our ears, but this is a FLOWER FACTORY! Wonder what made Harry Baweja chose such a film for his son (will come to the son later). Flying cars, pop shows performed in the skies all make for very irritating and boring proceedings.
Harman Baweja – He must have been greatly influenced by Hrithik and his ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’. Everything he does reminds us of Hrithik, and irritates us even more because this guy doesnt do it the way to make us forgive him. Even the way he speaks, the way he expresses, the way he dances, the way he walks, EVERYTHING IS A CARBON COPY OF HRITHIK!! Its obvious that they wanted to re-create the KNPH magic with Harman, but it fails badly! Priyanka Chopra does well but why does she do films like this? Boman Irani doesnt have much to do. The music is a yawn, everything about the movie is so bad that you need headache pills after watching this torture!
VERDICT: JTYJN WINS BY A MILE!
